Bats in Florida are protected by law, and valuable, eating thousands of insects nightly, but a colony in your attic or barrel tile is still a real problem: accumulating guano, odor, stains at the entry points, and health considerations that make DIY removal a bad idea. It is also illegal to harm bats or block them inside.

Legal bat work is exclusion, not extermination: one-way devices installed at the entry points let every bat exit for its nightly feeding and prevents re-entry, after which the openings are permanently sealed. Florida prohibits exclusions during maternity season (April 16 – August 14) when flightless pups are present, we schedule around it and handle the guano cleanup afterward.

Signs of bats in your home

  • Dark staining and droppings below a gap at the roofline
  • Squeaking or rustling in walls or attic at dusk
  • Bats emerging from the roof edge at sunset
  • Ammonia-like odor from accumulated guano
  • Droppings that crumble to a shiny dust (insect parts)

Frequently asked about bat removal

Is it legal to remove bats in Florida?

Only by exclusion, and only outside maternity season. Florida prohibits bat exclusions April 16 through August 14 because flightless pups would be trapped inside. We use FWC-compliant one-way devices and schedule legally.

Is bat guano dangerous?

Accumulated guano can host the fungus that causes histoplasmosis, a respiratory infection. Disturbing it without protection is the main risk, our cleanup uses proper containment, HEPA filtration and disinfection.

How do bats get into a house?

Through gaps as small as half an inch: roof returns, ridge vents, barrel tile ends, chimney gaps and fascia joints. The stains and droppings at the active holes tell us exactly where to install exclusion devices.

Will bats come back after exclusion?

Not through sealed entries, but bats have strong site fidelity and will probe for new gaps. That is why we seal the whole roofline high-point profile, not just the holes in use.
